The Opiod Crisis: How Acupuncture Can Help

Tennessee’s largest health insurance provider recommends acupuncture for pain relief vs. Oxycontin. Oxycontin is addictive and doesn’t cure the problem but only makes matters worse. When acupuncture needles are inserted into painful areas, endorphins (the feel good hormones) are released mitigating pain and allowing the patient to relax and reduce stress. Oxycontin is a short-term fix and as you have heard in the news, addiction to this and other pain-relief drugs are destroying lives, families and communities.

We can only hope that more insurance companies in other states will follow suit. Acupuncture has proven over and over again its effectiveness in reducing pain and stress levels. Most insurance companies cover acupuncture and it’s my hope that Medicare will see the light soon.
